New Training Video, Quick Overview and Teacher Spotlight: Week 6 COVID-19

Hello Teachers,

For many, you have been teaching online for 5 weeks now and we hope we made a difference for you and your students.  One of the complaints we hear most is we are holding kids accountable and many just want a free ride.  Sorry kids, your education is still important to us.

A Quick Overview of KP Education Systems
I know there are some of you who are on the fence with KP, you have so many choices from companies supplying you with online videos, powerpoints, and some activities. I wanted to take a moment to share with you a short video that gives you the basic rundown of how KP’s System workshttps://youtu.be/PSxcfmfSMUU

Zoom Q&A Tuesday 2:00 PDT
Now everyone is underway we have time to breathe again and will be hosting our first Zoom Q&A session Tuesday 4/28 at 2:00 PDT.  This will give you all a chance to ask questions, share ideas and have an open conversation about teaching online.

A New Getting Started Training Video
We have a lot of good concise written instruction but by popular demand we created a quick overview on how you can get started in less than 20 minutes once we convert you to a teacher. If you’ve been using our system and have some questions, this will answer them.

Why didn’t we have one?  In the past we’ve always done our training in 1 to 1 sessions.  This created a personalized experience for the teachers we’ve worked with. We were caught off guard and this crisis has forced us to adapt to reach as many teachers as we can with the same resources we have.  Watch the video and see how you can easily use our system.

KP Fun Facts, KP sold computers!
Our first version of the program was called The Sous Chef (because we are your Sous Chef, here to help you).  It was such a huge program we were shipping all orders with a computer and a monitor from 1999 - 2003 because back then why would a FACS/Culinary program need a computer, all they need are stoves!  LOL.  Those were interesting times.  Buy the software, get a PC, what a deal!

Teacher Spotlight Shelley Rust: From Industry to Teaching in Indiana
I reached out to Shelley this week since she has a varied background and asked her to share her story here. Here’s what she had to say about her journey to teaching online.

My name is Shelley Rust, I have been in the restaurant hospitality industry for 31 years.  15 years ago I left industry to teach high school culinary arts and baking/pastry.    In my previous school my students opened up the state's first ever off site student owned and operated candy/pastry store.  In my current school, Area 31 Career Center our students are in the early college program and now they can earn their associates degree while in high school.   I love all Career and Technical Education and am very active in our state and National ACTE association.

Total fear was what I felt when we went online!  Not the work necessarily, but fear that the kids won’t hold interest not being in the kitchen, fear that the kids would not have access to WiFi or a device to do work, fear that those students would miss important learning face to face.   Fear that my seniors would not get the scholarships so desperately needed.  However, while there are some who have connectivity issues due to no devices or WiFi, I am thrilled with what is happening.

The kids are engaged...they are working hard and wanting to learn.  They are reaching out for help with everything they need for college or anything else.   Colleges around the country are stepping up like never seen before, teachers all over the country are coming together, amazing digital resources are being offered to help out… all for the betterment of our students.  The fear is gone and while I hate not being with my kids and miss their daily wise cracks, I am so incredibly proud of how they are handling this all!

We are utilizing the management modules in KP right now.  Ep and Ap and costing work is not being turned into my students creating their own restaurant.  We are working on menus and utilizing the costing module to cost out their menus they have created.   We are also learning how to layout and design menus to fit the individual restaurants and demographics of those restaurants.  The kids keep going back to all the modules and mastering them because they say it helps them understand these menus more.  I am so thrilled they are loving it and cannot thank KP systems enough!

Join our FB group
When this started we never imagined using FB as a way to help teachers.  We created the group and now teachers are sharing ideas and best practices in using KP.  We are amazed at the creativity we’ve seen and how everyone helps each other.  Join, get ideas, share ideas and get help instantly!

Check your SPAM and add my email
If this is the only email you have seen from me, my response to you most likely went to SPAM or was blocked.  In the past 6 weeks we’ve sent out 10,000 times more emails than we normally do so we are getting flagged for spamming.  We were also shut down for 6 hours one day while they investigated our servers.  We’ve been very responsive so please add nai attttt kpcurriculum.com to your address book to make sure we can communicate.
